Balcony Railing Safety Requirements

Jun 15, 2026

Balcony railings are aesthetic and protective facilities for the outer edge of a balcony, constructed from alloy tubing through welding or assembly. Common low windowsills are approximately 0.5 meters from the ground; adding a 0.4-meter railing or fence close to the inner wall will certainly meet the required safety standards.

If the windowsill is too large, such as a bay window, where children frequently stand to look out and users must also stand on the windowsill to open the window, then the railing itself should be at least 0.9 meters high.

The net height of the railing should not be less than 1.05 meters. For mid-rise and high-rise residential buildings, the net height of the railing should not be less than 1.1 meters, slightly higher than the 0.9-meter requirement for window sill railings.
